Jose's Scribepost for October 14th, 2009

Today in class Mr.Harbeck taught us about ratios. Here are some definitions you will need to know ;

Two term ratio - It compares two quantities measured in the same units. (written as a:b or a to b)

Three term ratio - It compares three quantities measured in the same units. (written as a:b:c or a to b to c)

Part to part ratio - It compares different parts of a group to eachother.

Part to whole ratio - It compares one part of a group to the whole group.

SHOW YOU KNOW :

a) What is the ratio of red tiles to total of tiles? Express the answer in 3 different ways
The ratios are : 4/17 , 4:17 , and 4 to 17.
b) What could the ratio 4:6 represent ?

The ratio represents that there is 4 reds, and 6 blacks. red:black
c) What is the ratio of red to black to white tiles?

The ratio of red to black to white is 4:6:11, or 4 to 6 to 11, or 4/6/11
