Elijah's Ratio Homework Scribe

Questions 1 and 2


1. Janine wants to write the ratio of oranges to apples. How does she know whether to write 3:4 or 4:3?



Answer-
4:3 - Because in the question it said, " oranges to apples ." There are 4 oranges and there are 3 apples.



2. Your friend missed the class when ratios were introduced. Use an example and draw a diagram to explain the difference between a part-to-part ratio and a part-to-whole ratio.

Part- to- part ratio- is a comparing of a part to another part in a group.


Part- to- whole ratio- is comparing a part and the total number in a group.


Example -
What is the ratio of blue to green ?
answer- 8:7

The part to part was- blue to green.



What is the ratio of purple to the total?
answer- 3:23

The part to whole was purple to the total of coloured circles.
