- red to yellow
red :
yellow
4 : 6

Equavelent Ratios.

Ratio is - orange to yellow
orange : yellow
2 : 6

There are two ways you can make an equivalent ratio.

One way is to multiply.

The original ratio was 2/6. So I multiplied the numerator by 2 and i got 4. And whatever you do to the top, you do to the bottom, which is the denominator.

Other way is Divide. -

The original ratio was 2/6. But to make the ratio simple, I divided the numerator by 2 and I got 1. Then I divided the denominator by 2 and I got 3.

Questions -

1. How can you simplfy 3/41 ?

2. What is the difference of part to part ratio and part to whole ratio ?

3.
If there are 4 Y's , 5 E's and 7 H's. What is the part to whole ratio ?

PART 2

3. A normal deck of playing cards has 52 cards in four suits ( clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades) of 13 cards each. Two suits are black and two suits are red. The ratio of red cards to the whole deck is:

mistake: 2:4
right answer : 1:2

I should always select the lowest terms

4. Four students are running for student council president. Of 30 students polled, 15 chose Mike, 3 chosePatricia, 6 chose Brian, and the rest chose Karen. What is the ratio of votes for girls to votes for boys in the student council election? Express the ratio in lowest terms.

mistake : 7:3
answer : 3:7

I thought that it was boys : girls, but it was girls : boys .. Next time I have to read the question carefully !

7. A rapid transit train has 39 passengers on it as it starts its run. At first stop 12 passengers get off and 18 passengers get on. What is the ratio of the number of passengers who were on the train as it arrived in the first station to the number who were on the train when it left the first station? Express your answer in lowest terms.

mistake: 18 : 12
answer : 13 : 15

I kinda rushed on this question because I left it blank at first. But when I went back on it, I didnt get it.

8. A picture frame has a width to length ratio of 5 : 7. If the width of the photo is 9 cm, the length of the photo is.

mistake: 11 cm
answer: 12.6 cm

First you have to find out how you got the 9cm, then you do the same with the length.

17. Use the data in the table below to determine which sports teams have eaquipment scored by to scored against ratios.

mistake : Baseball and Hockey
answer : Baseball and Basketball

Baseball -
scored by : 10
scored against : 8

Basketball-
scored by: 115
scored against:92

Hockey-
scored by: 6
scored against:4

baseball- 10/8 = 1.25
basketball- 115/92= 1.25
hockey- 6/4= 1.3 repeated.

2 Questions- please answer. :)

A rapid transit train has 28 passengers on it as it starts its run. At first stop 7 passengers get off and 13 passengers get on. What is the ratio of the number of passengers who were on the train as it arrived in the first station to the number who were on the train when it left the first station? Express your answer in lowest terms.

A picture frame has a width to length ratio of 8 : 11. If the width of the photo is 13 cm, the length of the photo is.

1) Divide by 3
3|41 ÷3
1|13.66..7

2) part to part compares a part to a different part of group while part to whole compares a part of a group to a whole group.

3)Y:Total 4:16

1. How can you simplfy 3/41 ?

Uhm, i dont think you can, because if you divide the numerator with the denominator. you get a decimal number.

2. What is the difference of part to part ratio and part to whole ratio ?

Part to part is two parts comparing with each other in a group, and part to whole is comparing a part to the total of the group.

3. If there are 4 Y's , 5 E's and 7 H's. What is the part to whole ratio ?

( I'm sorry, where it said , 'What is the part to whole ratio?' You can choose any letter you want. )

E to total
E:total
5:16

1 you can divide both numbers by 3

2 a part to part ratio is comparing two different parts of a total, while a part to whole ratio compares one part to the total amount

3 if there were 4y's 5e's and 7h's the part whole ratio could be 3 different answers:
y-
4:16
e-
5:16
h-
7:16
you did a very good job elijah ;)

Question 1 - You cannot simplify 3/41

Question 2 - Part to part compares 2 parts in a group and part to whole compares one part to the total.

Question 3 - I pick H so if you add all the Y's, E's and H's together you would get 16. So the part to whole ratio wouldbe 7:16
