Devin's bob2
The two questions I had trouble with is question 15 and 16, In question 15 you had to write the ratio's in lowest terms? The second question was,You have a bag with one white ball, six red balls, eight green balls, and three purple balls in lowest terms, what is the ratio of red balls to the whole bag of balls?
What I can do in the future for my test are working harder, studying a bit more, and reading the questions carefully.
sorry its late.

Vanessa's BOB 2 on ratios
What were some mistakes you did on your tests ?
A mistake that I did on my tests is that i didn't simplify it ( lowest terms ). Another mistake I did on my tests is not showing enough work, so I got less than what i should have gotten.
What I can do to improve my future tests...
I can study hard and read the questions slowly.
Questions...
1) A picture frame has a width to length ratio of 5:7 . If the width of the photo is 9cm, the length of the photo is ?
The other question is just simplifying the ratio.

Well the first mistake I did was not putting the questions in there lowest terms.
The second mistake I did was on the percent with the food.
The third mistake I made was not showing my work on the last question.
I will remember what to do in the future tests by reading the question and taking some time to understand it so I could get the correct answer.
2. Rewrite 2 questions that gave you difficulty with different numbers.

Michelle's BOB2 Ratio for October 25, 2009
On one of the questions I wasn't sure if I should answer it in lowest terms. It didn't say to, so I just put 2:4. Next time I will remember, that the best answer is in lowest terms if there is a choice for it.
The question with 84 students, and finding out the percent, I got mixed up there. I didn't know how to get the percent. But some how on the calculator I ended up pressing numbers to find out the "percent." Since it said to round to one decimal place, I thought I had gotten the right number because I could round18. 4444 etc ( or something like that.) I know now that when you want to find the percent you can just compare the fractions, then divide the fraction to get the decimal.
Also in another question where you had to compare which two teams had the same amount of wins and lost, I didn't show my work because it didn't say to, or I forgot that the teacher said showing your work will give you the marks. I just put 5:4 and a sentence saying they were equivalent to each other. For the next text, I will try to show my work so I can earn those marks.
The questions that gave me difficulty were :
In a group of 84 students surveyed, the ratio of student preference is 7 oatmeal eaters to 4 granola eaters to 3 toasted O eaters. Of the 84 students, how many prefer oatmeal and how many preferred granola?
I got this question right, but in order for you to answer the question, you had to find what number THAT will get you to 84 if you times THAT number by all the " different eaters." Then add it up, and it should give you 84.
A stable has 39 passengers on it as it starts its run. At the first stop 12 passengers get off and 18 passengers get on. What is the ratio of the number of passengers who were on the train when it left the first station? Express your answer in lowest terms.
a) 2:3 b) 13:15 c) 18:12 d) 27:39
This question was hard for me, because the way they put the question got me very confused. I had to read it over and over until I finally found an answer that was on one of the choices. ( I got it right. ) I had to add and subtract numbers, then eventually I had divide to find the lowest terms.

WRITING THE RATIO IN 4 DIFFERENT WAYS : ( fraction, percent, decimal ratio notation )
The ratio I chose is 1 : 2
FRACTION :
The way you write it in a fraction is that you just put the 1 on the numerator and the 2 on the denominator.
DECIMAL :
All you have to do is divide 1 to 2. So all the line means is to divide the numerator from the denominator. 1 / 2 = 0.5
PERCENTAGE :
To find the percentage you just need to use the decimal form. In this case, the decimal is 0.5. In other words that is 50 so there is your answer. 50 %
RATIO NOTATION :
All ratio notation means is the colon in the ratio. 1 : 2 . The colon between the 1 and 2 is ratio notation.
EQUIVILANT RATIOS :
I will choose the ratio 2 : 22 for this question.
Equivilant ratios for 2 : 22 :
- 1 : 11 ( ÷ 2 )
- 4 : 44 ( x 2 )
- 8 : 88 ( x 4 )
Thats how you simplify 2 : 22 in diffrent ways.
MY QUESTIONS :
1. Why do we use ratios? Explain
2. What is the part to part to part ratio for pink to orange to black ?
3. How do ratios help us in real life?

Equivalent fraction is like another word for equal fractions. In my diagram here it shows that the original fraction the numerator is 3 and I multiplyed it by 2 to get 6, so whatever you do to the numerator you HAVE to do the same to the denomenator so I multiplyed the denomenator and I got 8 because the original was 4.

Write 3 ways of a ratio -
I picked the colours Pink and Green as a fraction, decimal and a percent.
Fraction - 1/4 Decimal - 0.25 % Percent - 25 %
How to make Equivalent Fractions :
A equivalent fraction is written in two ways which is lowest terms or higher terms.
To get a lower term you have to divide the numbers by any same number that will divide by both the same numbers you are using. To get a higher term you have to multiply by any number. Remember that what ever you do to the bottom or the top you have to do to all. .. Example ----- >
Questions :
1) What is the ratio for gold, silver, and orange ?
2) What is the difference between the part to part and the part to total ratio ?
3) Could you simplify 76:11 ?? Yes and how or No and explain why not ?
Please comment and good luck to all on the test tomorrow !! thank you =)
PART 2 !
Some of the mistakes I got were :
1) Always forgetting to put it in lowest terms.
2) I didn't show all of my work.
3) I didn't read the question properly
Examples :
4. Four students are running for student council president. Of 30 students polled, 15 chose Mike, 3 chose Patricia, 6 chose Brian, and the rest chose Karen. What is the ratio of votes for girls to votes for boys in the student council election? Express the ratio in lowest terms.
Mistake : b. 7 : 3
Answer : a. 3 : 7
6. A stable has 39 horses available for trail rides. Of these horses, 26 are all brown, 8 are mainly white, and the rest are black. Express in lowest terms the ratio of brown horses to mainly white horses to black horses.
Mistake : b. 13 : 4 : 5
Answer : c. 18 : 12
For The Future Tests :
I will study harder. Learn how to read questions better by read the question over and over and see if the answer is that i want it to be. Make sure ever thing is in lowest terms. And I will make sure I show all my work when it says so.
2 questions that gave me difficulty were :
A rapid transit has 39 passengers on it as it starts its run. At the first stop 12 passengers get off and 18 passengers get on. What is the ratio of the number of passengers who were on the train as it arrived in the first station to the number who were on the train when it left the first station? Express your answer in lowest terms.
a. 2 : 3 b. 13 : 15 c. 18 : 2 d. 27 : 39
This question was hard for me because i didn't really understand it in the beginning so i had to read it a couple of times, but i did get the question right by adding and subtracting the numbers then i had to put it to the lowest terms.
In a group of 84 students surveyed, the ratio of student preference is seven oatmeal eaters to four granola eaters to three toasted O eaters.
Of the 84 students how many prefer oatmeal ?
This question and the others just like it gave a hard time as well because it didn't add up to 84 all together and so i didnt know how to get it, but now i do. What you have to do is add up 7, 4, and 3 which is 14 then you have to multiply by 6 to get 84. So you have to multiply 7 4 and 3 which is now turned into 42 24 and 18. Now that added up to 84 and that's how you get the answer.

How to make equivalent fractions:
Equivalent fractions are just equal fractions. So to
make an equivalent fractions, whatever you do to one side, you just have to do to the other side. It's that simple!
For example, this picture shows the number of green crayons, to the number of total crayons. So to get an equivalent fraction, i just multiplied both the green and total by 2. You may also divide the two different numbers if you like.
Here are 3 questions you guys could answer:
What is the ratio for mixed coloured crayons to total crayons?
What would the percent be, for blue crayons to green crayons?
What would the decimal be, for pink crayons to total crayons?
BOB CONTINUED
Some mistakes i made on my test, was not taking the time to read the questions properly, or to take the time to find more or better answers.
Here is an example of my mistake:
15. Write each ratio in lowest terms.
D) 18:27=6:9. That is lower terms, but not the lowest. The lowest terms would be 2:3
I will remember to take more time on tests and not rush every answer. I should have taken more time on each question, then using the first answer i come up with.
Here are some questions that gave me some difficulty to answer:
John is able to stop 35% of the shots on goal. If he faces 16 shots on goal, how many goals would be likely to score on him?
Four students are running for student council president. Of 20 students polled, 8 chose Bob, 3 chose Gail, 2 chose Will, and the rest chose Kate. What is the ratio of votes for girl to votes for boys in the student council election? Express the ratio in lowest terms.

How to write a ratio 3 other ways
I'll use My Pink to Blue Ratio. (1:4)
There are 3 other ways to write a ratio. As a fraction, decimal, and a percent.
Fraction
To write 1:4 as a fraction, all you have to do is put the number on the left side of the ratio on the top (numerator) and the one on the right on the bottom (denominator)

Decimal
Now, to write the ratio 1:4 as a decimal, you need its fraction form, 1/4. What you basically need to do is divide 1 by 4. You know that line in between the numerator and denominator? That means divide the numbers.

Percent
To make things a lot easier, use the decimal form.
1.00 is the same as 100%. Take away the decimal (pretend you did) and it looks like a 100! So just take away the decimal (always pretend) and you got your answer.
(Blogger has problems uploading my picture)
Ratio Notation
A ratio notation is this: 1:4 the colon in the middle of the numbers. The only thing I know it does is that it shows you that its a ratio.
Equivalent Ratios
Equivalent ratios are what they are, ratios that mean the same thing as the original ratio. An easy way that I know of is to simplify the ratio then multiply it.
2:3 x2
4:6 x2
8:12 x5
40:60 ÷20
2:3
See?
Review:
1) A part to part ratio compares different kinds of groups. T or F?
2) Fractions and part to part ratios are the same. Explain why.
3) Name the probably only mistake you cn make with ratios.
That is all. Good Luck on the test tomorrow!
BOB2
Some things that I got wrong on the test were....
Question 7. I put 2:3 when the acual answer is 18:12.
Question 14. We were supposed to put the percent as a decimal (0.21%) but I just put 21%.
Question 17. All I put as an answer was a word ratio.
Question 18. I put the answer and a little bit of work, but I needed more information so I only got 2/5 for that.
Some Questions..
A rapid transit has 42 passengers on it as it starts to run. At the first stop 16 passengers get off and 9 passengers get on. What is the ratio of the number of passengers who were on the train as it arrived in the first station to the number who were on the train when it left the first station? Express your answer in lowest terms.

I did this for ...

The next question says to pick another ratio and I choose Blue : Total (3:12)
Here's how I made equivalent fractions...

Now I have to make 3 Questions.
1. What is the ratio for Purple & Yellow to Blue?
2. Create a part to part to part ratio including the total.
3. Make a part to part ratio using the colors that start with "s" and "g".
