emmanuel's Rate Growing Post

Rate-compares 2 quantities measured in different units.

Ratio-compares 2 quantities measured in pazazz the same units.

The difference in rate and ratio, is that rate measures 2 quantities in different units, while ratio measures quantities in the same units.

4. Determine the unit rate in each situation.

a) An orca swims 110 km in 2 h.
Answer:

The orca swam 55km/h

b) A Canada goose flies 800 km in 12.5 h.
Answer:

The goose flew 64km/h

c) Cathy plants 45 daffodils in 30 min.

she planted 1Daffodil/minute

10. Trevor rode his mountain bike 84 km in
3 h. Jillian rode 70 km in 2.5 h. Who is
the faster cyclist? How do you know?

Answer:
Trevor and Jillian are both equal speeds, because when you bring both their km and hours to the unit rate, they both equal 28km/h

Coin Rate:

How many pennies would there be in each jar (saying there were 6 jars).

If there were 3000 pennies combined in 6 jars, you would just need to find the unit rate (divide each numbers by 6) and then you would get your answer! So there are 500pennies/jar!!

RATE PART 2

This recipe serves 4 people.

1) What would the recipe look like if it had to serve 10 people? Show your calculations.

-ground beef - 0.5 x 2.5 = 1.25 lb
-medium onion, diced - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5
-stalk celery finely diced - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5
-clove garlic, minced - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5
-canned tomatoes, chopped - 14 x 2.5 = 35 oz
-can tomato paste - 0.5 x 2.5 = 1.25
-parsley - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5 tsp
-basil - 1.5 x 2.5 = 3.75 tsp
-oregano - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5 tsp
-sugar - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5 tsp
-Worcestershire Sauce - 0.5 x 2.5 = 1.25 tsp
-seasoning salt - 0.5 x 2.5 = 1.25 tsp
-bay leaf - 1 x 2.5 = 2.5

How I did it:
To get from 10 to 4, you have to multiply by 2.4, so since the regular recipe only serves 4, just multiply all the regular numbers by 2.5!

2) What would the recipe look like if you had to only serve 1 person? Show your calculations.

-ground beef - 1.25 ÷ 10 = 0.125 lb
-medium onion, diced - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25
-stalk celery finely diced - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25
-clove garlic, minced - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25
-canned tomatoes, chopped - 35 ÷ 10 = 3.5 oz
-can tomato paste - 1.25 ÷ 10 = 0.125
-parsley - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25 tsp
-basil - 3.75 ÷ 10 = 0.375 tsp
-oregano - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25 tsp
-sugar - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25 tsp
-Worcestershire Sauce - 1.25 ÷ 10 = 0.125 tsp

-seasoning salt - 1.25 ÷ 10 = 0.125 tsp
-bay leaf - 2.5 ÷ 10 = 0.25

How I did it:
From the last recipe, I got it to serve 10, so to get from 10 to 1, you must divide by 10. So i divided all the ingredients to serve 10, by 10!
