Question :
What is the length of the red diagonal in the box? Express your answer to the nearest tenth of a millimetre.

Answer :

a2 + b2 = c2
7 squared + 12 squared = c2
( 7 x 7 ) + (12 x 12 ) = c2
49 + 144 = c2
193 = c2
square root of 193 = square root of c2
13.9 mm = c2

a2 + b2 = c2
5 squared + 13.9 squared = c2
( 5 x 5 ) + ( 13.9 x 13.9 ) = c2
25 + 193.2 = c2
218.2 = c2
square root of 218.2 = square root of c2
14.8 mm = c2

The length of the red diagonal box is 14.8 mm .

QUESTION NUMBER 10 FOUND ON PAGE 104 :

What is the minimum distance the player
at third base has to throw the ball to get
the runner out at first base? Express
your
answer to the nearest tenth of a meter.

Since 3rd base has to get the ball to 1st b
ase, I figured out the triangle that it makes and it looks like :

After, I figured out the steps to finding the answer :

a² + b²
=

27² + 27² =
( 27 x 27 ) + (27 x 27 ) = c²
729 + 729 = c²
√1458 = c²
38.2 = c²

Then I put it in the missing space : The distance thrown was 38.2 M.

question number 9

A2 + B2 = C2
62 + 12'2 = C2
(6x6) + (12x12)
36 + 144 = C2
180 = C2
180 = C2
13.4 = C2

Question Numbah 5

a) To answer this question all you have to do is multiply 6 by itself and 8 by itself. So:

6x6=36 8x8=64

b) Well, all you have to do is add up 36+64(areas of the 2 other squares) to get the area of the last square, which is 100

c) To find the length of the hypotenuse, all you have to do is square root the area that we found in b). So:

√100=10

Question #6.

Determine the length for each right angle.

c2 - a2 = b2
25squared - 7 squared = b2
(25x25) - (7x7) = b2
625 - 49 = 576
576 = b2
√ 576 = √ b2
24 = b

t2 - s2 = r2
26squared - 24squared = r2
(26x26) - (24x24) = r2
676 - 576 = r2
100 = r2
√100 = √r2
10 = r2

Question # 3.

a) 20 cm

a2 + b2 = c2

a2=12cm=144cm
b2=16cm=256cm
c2=?=?

144cm+256cm=c2
144cm+256cm
=400cm

c2=20cm

400's square root is 20cm.

b) 34 cm

p2 + q2 = r2

p2=16m=256m
q2=30m=900m
r2=?=?

256m+900m=r2
256m+900m=1156m

r2=34cm

1156's square root is 34cm.

Question # 4.

a) 9.2 cm

x2 + y2 = z2

x2=6cm=36cm
y2=7cm=49cm
z2=?=?

49cm + 36cm = z2
49cm + 36cm = 85

z2 = 9.2 cm

85's square root is 9.2 cm.

b) 13.6 cm

b2 + c2 = d2

b2=8cm=64cm
c2=11cm=121cm
d2=?=?

64cm + 121cm = d2
64cm + 121cm = 185cm

d2=13.6cm

185's square root is 13.6 cm.
