- 3 things I now know about graphing :

A
(BAR) GRAPH needs to have the following :
  • a title
  • x and y axis
  • scale * intervals must be same amount going up *
  • labels for both axis
  • colours are optional .

- advantages for different graphs :

Bar Graphs - are best for comparing data.


Circle Graph
- are best for comparing categories when using percents.


Pictograph
- are best for comparing categories that can easily be counted using symbols.


Line Graph
- are best for showing changes of data over time.


Double Bar Graph
- are best for comparing two sets of data.



- misrepresenting the data :

  • Distorting a bar graph - making other bars looks different form the others makes you focus on that bar .
  • Colours - if you change a colour of a bar , it makes the other bars looks like it is not important.
  • Breaks - shorten the y-axis' appearance

Different Graphs

bar graph, double bar graph, line graph, double line, circle graph, and pictograph.

Messing with Graphs

1. you can brake the axis so it make the information look different then the normal one.
2. have one really big bar in the graph to make it stand out.
3. have the same colours and put any random colour to make one bar stand out.

The Disadvantages

bar graphs - The higher the intervals are the more inaccurate the number is.

pictograph - You cant show exact numbers like 37 theyre more like showing numbers like 10, 20, 30.

line graph - It cant really show data very organized because its really plain and dosen't catch your attention.

circle graph - You have to do lots of work to find the percent, you do lots of work to find the number if they just give you the percent and it cant show exact amounts.

How I Would Improve my Test

I would improve my test by couloring in the bars. I would write in a conclusion and in that conclusion I would explain why and predict. I would also organize my raw data.

3 things I know about graphing :

A couple of things that a graph (bar) needs to have :
-the title
-a y-axis
-an x-axis
-labels for both axis'
-scale, the intervals must be the same amount going up
-(colors are optional)

These are some of the advantages for different graph :
Bar Graphs - are best for comparing data
Circle Graph - are best for comparing categories when using percents
Pictograph - are best for comparing categories that can easily be counted using symbols
Line Graph - are best for showing changes of data over time
Double Bar Graph - are best for comparing two sets of data

Misrepresenting the data :
distorting the scale - you can use a break in the y-axis to make it seem shorter, causing a different appearance on the results

changing the size of the bars - you can change the width of the bar so that it will seem to pop out of the page more than the other bars

distorting the visual - in pictographs, you can make small amounts of pictures seem bigger by changing the size of the symbol


What I know now that would've improve on my test:

In my graph I should have colored in the bars to make it pop out more. In my organization, I should have used a tally chart or some other sort of chart. Also in my paragraph I should have predicted some more about my graph.

2: Messing with the Graph ;
There are many ways you can misrepresent the graph such as ;

-Using a broken axis so makes the information look different.

-Making one bar really thick, and the rest the same bar width.(By doing this it will grab the readers attension)


What I know now that would've improve on my test:

I could have colored it. Could of labeled my y-axis as "number of times rolled" instead of amount, I could of labeled my x-axis I could of put "The sums of the diced rolled". I could of wrote more sentences for my conclusion and I could of added a prediction to my"how i misrepresented my date."

Different types of graphs:

Bar Graph- The most used graph to represent data.

Double Bar Graphs- Almost the same thing as the single bar graph but is known for comparing 2 different things.

Line graphs- A graph that uses points connected by lines to show how something changes in value as time passes by or as something else happens.

Double Line Graphs- A graph that compares two different things over a period of time.

Circle Graph- A circle graph is a graph in the form of a circle that is divided into sectors with each sector representing a part of a set of data.

Pictograph- Used for comparing data by using a picture or a symbol.


How to mess with graphs:

How I could Improve my test mark:

I could improve my test mark if I put the labels on the y and x axis. I should have also added a conclusion and explained what I did. And the last thing i should have done was to arrange the numbers so they weren't mixed up.

The 3 things I know about graphing :

First of all when making a graph you need to have :
- a title
- the y and x-axis
- labels on both axis'
- label the scale ( make sure the intervals are the same, and are going up by the same amount of numbers)
- color it


There are many different graphs used:

( Advantages... )

Bar graph (most common) : are best for comparing data.
Double Bar Graph : good for comparing 2 sets of data.
Circle Graph : comparing categories, using percent.
Line Graph : showing changes in a data over a period of time.
Pictograph : comparing data by using pictures, and are easier to count.


Misrepresenting Data :
  • (distorting scale) By using a break in the y-axis, can make the y-axis shorter, and can make the graph look like it hasn't / has increased as much as a graph with no break.
  • (distorting the size of bars) When you have a bar graph,you can make a bar wider than the others so it sticks out more, and makes it look like it has more amount.
  • (distorting the visuals) When you have a pictograph, you can make the least data seem like the most, by making the picture bigger than the rest of the pictures. Which makes it look more important than the other data.


What I know now that would've improve on my test:

I could have colored it, and instead of just organizing the sums into ascending order , I could have made a t-chart and tally the sums. Also in my paragraphs I should have predicted what the outcomes would be if I kept on rolling the die.

The 3 things i know about graphing :





Here are a couple of different graphs I know :





Bar graphs - Bar graphs are best for comparing data across catergories.


Pictograph - Pictographs are best for comparing data and can easily be counted and represented by symbols.


Line graph - Line graphs are best for showing changes of data over time.


Circle graph - Circle graphs are good for comparing catergories using percents, the percents add up to 100%.


Double bar graph - Double Bar graph are best for comparing 2 sets of data across catergories.





Ways to mess with a graph :





-Make a break in the y-axis and mess with the intervals by going up by higher numbers or lower numbers.


-Make all of the bars skinny and make 1 bar big and fat so it pops out and catches your eye.


-Make all the bars the same size but colour 1 of the bars a different colour from all the other bars, for example all the bars are black and theres 1 bright pink bar.





Disadvantages of the graphs :

What I could've done to improve my test :





I could've labeled my y-axis as "number of times rolled" instead of amount, I could've labeled my x-axis I could've put "The sums of the diced rolled". I could've predicted what would happen if I kept rolling for my paragraph in the first graph. I could've not start the bar on the y-axis like I did on my first graph.

3 Things I know about graphing.

2) The advantages and disadvantages of the graphs

-Bar Graph
It's best for showing data that doesn't have an ending number (where you have to stop)
-Circle Graph
It's best for showing data that's part of a whole.
-Line Graph
This graph is best for when you're keeping track of data (Like how many shirts you sold for the past month)
-Picto graph
I think that the picto graph is like a bar graph, but in a easier to read and make form

3)Distorting Data
-The size of the bars
Not the height, but the width. Height is cheating so don't do it okay?
-Size of the pictures
Make the one that you like the size of the moon and the one that youdon't like the size of a pixel.
-Manipulating the colors
Make all the other ones one shade of color and the one that you like the 'opposite' color. (red=blue)
-Breaks and Intervals
add a break so you can start on any number on the graph and use Intervals to make the bars bigger or smaller

What I know now that could improve my test...

For starters, I could have done this test on the weekend instead of, whatever. And as for the test part, I should have probably coloured it, and added labels and title. And if I had a chance to write the paragraph, I would make it 3-4 sentences long.

Here are 3 things i learnt, and already know about graphing:

1-This year, i learnt that you can distort graphs, so in situations lik e advertising you can make something look better, or worse than it really is by messing around with size, s p a c e, colour, and font.


2-I know that there are many types of different graphs. Examples of some graphs would be bar graphs, line graphs, circle graphs, and pictographs. In some graphs you could also do things to them by changing the shape you put into the graph.


3-I know that many graphs represent the same data, but in different ways. For example, a pictograph shows information with pictures, and each picture represents a number. While circle graphs show the same information, but instead of numbers and pictures, they use percents.






This is a Picture of my regular graph for our self assesment:



My conclusion for this graph was that 6 and 9 were rolled the most times, while 2, 4, and 12 were rolled the least times. I don't really have an exact prediction, because with dice, you never know what you'll get.

And this is a picture of my distorted graph:

How it's Distorted: This graph is distorted, because i made the 6 and 9 bars more bigger and "in your face" by changing it's colour, and making the intervals smaller. It also stands out, because 6 and 9 are more spread out from all the other numbers, and the other numbers are all the same colours, while 6 and 9 are more outstanding colours.
To improve my assesment, I would make all my work more accurate, and make things more organized than they were. I also would have made my answers and paragraphs more clearly by adding more information in the sentences.

The 3 things i know about graphing are :

How to make a Bar graph ?

On the left side of the graph ( y-axis ) write down the intervals, it doesn't matter which numbers you start with as long as it goes by the same amount. On the x-axis, you put down the data. It should have the same space. Like if the bar's are spaced out by two, then the rest should be spaced out by two. The bars should be clear, and accurate with the numbers. You have to have labels on the x and y axis to make people understand what your talking about and you need a title that shows what the whole bargraph is about. After you do the information. You have to colour so it stands out.

What are the kinds of graphs ?

Circle graph - Uses percents to compare the other categories.
Line graph - shows change's over time and you can predict the trend more.
Bar graph - Shows the data's numbers
Pictograph- compares data using symbols

How do you misrepresent data?

Colours- adding colours on to one certain piece of the graph can make you think that it's more important than the other pieces.
Distort- makes you focus into one piece more than the other pieces of the graphs.
Breaks- shortens y-axis's appearance


How i can Improve my test mark :

How i can improve my test mark is that i shouldn't forget to put the labels next time and i forgot to put my conclusion for my first graph. I could have predicted the trend of the second graph and i could of told why i misreprensented my bar graph better.

3 Things I know about graphing.

1) Different kinds of graphs:

- Bar Graph
- Circle Graph
- Line Graph
- Pictograph

2) Advantages and Disadvantages
Bar Graph: They're good for comparing data into categories. But you don't exactly know how much there is.











Circle Graph: This graph show the percent of each category, But It doesn't tell the exact number and you don't know the total.














Line Graph: Line Graphs are best to show changes that happen over time. It's not really good for organizing data and it looks plain.













Pictograph: It's easy to read, very appealing, and best for showing data that can be counted. It doesn't really tell you the exact amount.











3) Misrepresent Data.
You can misrepresent the data to make it look better. On a bar graph you can color a bar a bright color to make it stand out. You could also make the bar wider and make the others smaller. On a Circle Graph you can make a piece stand out by making it 3-D. You can make images bigger on the pictograph.

What I know now that would improve my test:

For the Organized Data I should make a table and put the sums in ascending order. I should have put the y-axis title as 'The Sums I Rolled' and the x-axis should be 'The Number of Sums I Rolled.' On the first graph I loss marks on the paragraphs I should describe it and predicted. The second graph I should have told why I did it.

Hi guys, we all know that we had to do this assessment in class and this post is for extra marks so yeah .

3 Things i know about graphing

Use of the Graphs:
Line graphs : best for showing changes over time in a data.
Circle graphs: best for comparing categories using percents.
Bar graphs: compares the categories data's.
Pictographs: best for comparing data that you can easily count and represented using symbols

Misrepresenting the data:- Distorting the scale can mess with your visuals, because certain bar can be really wide and another can be really skinny so you can catch the readers attention and focus
- Using breaks on the y-axis can shorten the y-axis's appearance.
- Colouring and making the bars bigger can get the people's focus on that one piece of the graph.

Disadvantages :
- Line graph: it's better to use when the data changes over time. It is not very good when it comes to percentages
-Circle graph: You have to do extra work to find out the data. ex. measuring, if its fraction having to find its percentage then using a compass so and so.
-Bar graph: If the interval goes up by high numbers you don't exactly know what the amount is. It is also easy to distort
-Pictograph: very difficult when a question has something to do with with fractions like 1 / 10th

Things about graphing you need to know.

When graphing you need to remember that you have all your facts / data correct so when you graph it it is correct. You also need to be able to explain all the information you give correctly so readers can read it. Also make sure your intervals are all the same and equal so the readers don't mistake it for a distorted graph or a misrepresented graph.

What I know now that can improve my test.

I think that on my graph that I should of made my graph a bit more spread out because it was all squished and also on my distorted graph I should of coloured my distorted bar a different colour so it would stand out more. I also know that I should put a prediction in my conclusion and also organize my sums better but using a table of some sort.

What I know now that would improve my test..
I could've put the title as soon as I was finished making the graph. I put the x-axis's label as "The sums of dice rolled." instead of "Data." I also lost marks on my paragraphs, I've described it well, but I didn't predict what the trend will be like. I've lost alot of marks on my "Organized Data" because, I didn't put it on it in a table, so it doesn't waste any space. But instead I put all the numbers in ascending order.

Answer:i chose a bar graph.

Answer: i chose a line graph.

Answer:the line graph is more accurate at overtime graphs

An ice cream store developed the following graph to advertise its ice cream.
A ) What ice cream store do you believe developed this graph ? Explain.
I think the dairy tasty developed this ice cream because even though they have less the Cool Flavours made it bigger so it looked like Cool Flavours developed the ice cream.
B ) How is this graph misleading .
This graph could be misleading because one ice cream cone is way bigger than the other and it does not show exact information on how big it should be.

A) No, the two circle graphs are have the same information but graph A isnt showing the correct information.

B) Identify the errors in graph A .

B) graph A shows that D=35% when its really showing 50% and its also showing that C=25% when really its less than that.

A)Which category on the graph does the government want the public to notice the most?


Health because the section is bigger

The health sector is at the front of the diagram and appears much larger than the energy and education sectors




C) Draw a new graph to represent the data more accurately
