Shania's Scribepost for January 5, 2010

Pg. 104 : Question number 11
The right triangle below has a square attached to its hypotenuse. What is the perimeter of the triangle? Give your answer to the nearest tenth of a centimeter.

√914=30.2
30.2=C²
C²-A²=B²
30.2²-17²=B²
(30x30)-(17x17)=B²
914-289=B²
625=B²
√625=√B²
25=B
A+B+C=permeter
17+25+30.2=perimeter
72.2=perimeter
SORRY THIS IS LATE.

Your formulas are bunched togethe (By the c² and b²) and I find it a bit confusing. Try spacing them up a bit. Isn't 30 x 30 = 900, not 914? Also, since you got some calculations mixed up, your answer is incorrect since
900 - 289 = b²
-14 = b²
Sorry if my comment is a bit confusing, I just tried to explain that your answer is incorrect, and you should re-caluculate.
